Each SIGMA dp camera features a fixed prime lens optimized for the Quattro sensor. While each focal length has their own "worldview," we believe that photographers feel something special for 21mm. In addition, it is not only the widest angle in the series but also it best exemplifies the concept of the dp Quattro, "Reinvention of camera." Using this 21mm equivalent lens may be challenging because it is too wide for streets and too narrow for vast natural landscapes. However, it fully captures photographer's impulse from the scene s/he encountered just as it is. And, as a manufacturer, we wanted to develop a camera that boosts photographers' challenging spirit.
Our top goal was to realize the very best optical performance including lowest distortion - meaning that straight lines remain straight in the captured image and that the wide feeling should not be over-exaggerated. Also, it was an essential condition to get the natural and realistic rendition . And, by minimizing the distortion and other various aberrations, we have created one of the best ultra-wide angle lenses in SIGMA's history.
The Foveon sensor has a unique laminated construction similar to traditional color film and it records the world realistically with its astonishingly high resolution and rich tone reproduction. The dp0 Quattro has the lens that best matches with the supreme sensor. In fact, by producing the first generation SIGMA DP camera, we invented the method of combining a large sensor with a high performance fixed-focal lens. And, this was the result of our untiring pursuit of the high image quality that makes photographers feel happy every time they view their shots on the screen. And now, we proudly announce the birth of the SIGMA dp0 Quattro, the realization of our dream.
