This time, I travelled through Sulawesi Island in Indonesia with newly the released SIGMA SD1. The SD1 seems a little bulky at first, but the deep grip comfortably fits your hand, and you do not feel the weight even when you are walking. The Resolution produced by its 46 megapixel X3 direct image sensor catches your eyes as it is indeed one of the characteristics of the camera, but what should be highlighted here is its ability to reproduce scenes accurately. Although the weather was not so great, and it was raining most of the days during our stay, the SD1 captured Asia’s peculiar moist color and the local atmosphere very well.

At Sulawesi Island which is right under the equator, the wealth of rainwater grows many plants. After the rain had stopped, many flowers were coated with water drops in the yard of a private house.

On the only sunny day during our stay, I shot the sky containing the southern countries’ peculiar humidity from the ship. Lenses incorporating the Optical Stabilizer (OS) secure stable framing images for photographers.

My favorite of all the tropical flowers is Plumeria. White are more common, but this time I targeted at the unbeaten red that competes with the blue sky, by framing simply with the telephoto side of 17-50mm lens.

The traditional wooden ship, Pinisi boats are lining up at Makassar Harbor, in Sulawesi Island, Indonesia. To take a shot of the entire gigantic ship, I used the 8-16mm wide lens. The wide angle perspective is facilitated in capturing the long and sweeping stem.

The sun came out between trees to shine on the river just when I arrived at the waterfall of Bantimurung. I shot in a rush with the lowest possible speed so I could capture the river flow. Although it became a little blurry as one might be expected, the Optical Stabilizer (OS) reduced camera shake remarkably.

Church is quiet when there is no Mass on the day. This shot is taken by increasing the ISO to 800 in order to focus narrowly. Deep depth of field and resolution of the X3 sensor enable detailed rendering of fine ornamentation of the church.
