My evaluation of the SIGMA SD1 is that this is a camera which “captures the feeling in the air”. This is not to say it’s just sharp. Taking astonishing resolution for granted, it can also photograph “the very feeling in the air” which takes in even the humidity and smell of the place. I think that in portraits, it is ideal that it can capture the “air” existing in between models and photographers. Relationships with models and a sense of distance, as well as the atmosphere are in the “air”, and they can be appealed to the audience. The SD1 that captures the “air” has become my vital camera.
Shooting with the SD1 feels similar to shooting with a 4 x 5, one by one, rather than 35mm. However, the manageable body and maximum continuous buffer of 7 frames ensure enough mobility for portrait photography.
I am sure that it will become my precious partner and will fit naturally into my photographic style the more I use it. Then, I will continue capturing the air of the place without missing it.
