The first impression of this lens is that it has a very interesting focal length. This is significant since film and digital photography are coexisting together. When used on a film camera it will act in one manner.
When used on most digital cameras, because of the smaller image sensor, it will act in a different manner. Mostly, this is the difference in angles of view, effecting composition and apparent magnification.
The photographer using the lens with a digital camera cannot use it in quite the same manner as when using it with a digital camera. However, these differences can usually be adjusted for quite easily.

APO MACRO 150mm F2.8 EX DG HSM

For macro photography, the 100mm focal length is very popular with digital photographers. When used on most digital SLR cameras, it has the angle of view, equivalent to that of a 150-160mm lens on a 35mm SLR camera. This Macro lens, having 150mm focal length, now affords the same type angle of view with 35mm SLR cameras. Also, when shooting both film and digital cameras, one can get a sense of how the picture would look, when changing the lens from one type camera to the other.

In addition, by attaching the Macro 150/2.8 EX DG HSM lens to a digital SLR camera, it works as a good tele macro lens, if 16X reproduction ratio is considered. Since I mainly use a Canon digital camera, this lens’ angle of view becomes equivalent to that of a 240mm lens, on a 35mm camera. Therefore this lens can be used as a good medium telephoto, as well as a Macro lens. And, it is very compact, compared to 200mm lenses. While there are some macro lenses with 200mm focal length, when they are used with digital cameras, they act like a very long telephoto lens, more than 300mm, and can be difficult to handle and hold steady.

The longer focal length allows a more comfortable longer working distance, while achieving the same reproduction ratio. In addition, APO MACRO 150mmF2.8 EX DG HSM is more compact than other lenses in 200mm lens group.
When shooting pictures in field, 150/2.8mm lens is very convenient. Especially, when shooting flowers, the distance between flowers and photographer is different depending on the shooting conditions. In addition, it is also hard to shoot the flowers at close range because of the fence in some places. In order to shoot flowers and cherry blossoms this tele macro lens has a very convenient distance.
Keeping a far distance is better when using with a tripod stand, if the distance becomes too close and it is possible to harm the flowers. It is also very important to take good care of the subject and avoid any harm. Therefore, this lens is very convenient when shooting such subjects.

In general it is difficult to adjust AF with Macro Photography, however HSM mechanism of the Sigma lenses is very good. The focusing can be also adjusted turning the focus ring only. When tripod is used AF performance is getting much better and picture taking is easier. Canon Macro lenses also equipped with similar feature, but it is not available with Nikon Macro lenses.
The definition of APO MACRO 150mm F2.8 EX DG HSM is very sharp with a little high-contrast. Film cameras can create soft blue-sky pictures easily; same thing can be done with digital cameras by setting the contrast to low.
The lens is slightly heavy, however it is very compact compared to other lenses in 200mm focal length class. It also has a tripod mount; it is possible to change over the focusing point easily. Its digitally optimized lens reduces flare and ghost and gives very good results even in backlight picture taking situation. When shooting with full-frame cameras such as EOS1D and MarkII, corners of the image have very good image quality.
I recommend 100mm class lenses to people who wish to begin macro photograph, however I recommend this APO MACRO 150mm F2.8 EX DG HSM to people who are already familiar with macro photography.
It is easy to use and excellent value for money; additionally have wide working distance too.
Widen your macro photography shooting opportunities, by using this focal length.
